Tides to Storms 2 – North Hampton Vegetative Buffer Ordinance and Coordination

The Town of North Hampton requested assistance to modify the town’s existing wetlands zoning ordinance by implementing a vegetative buffer ordinance, and to educate owners of developed lots to encourage maintenance or re-establishment of a vegetative buffer. The purpose of both tasks was to better protect the environment and infrastructure from the impacts of coastal flooding by maintaining current and future flood storage areas and allowing for inland migration of salt marshes to minimize the impact of storm surges during coastal storms. The Planning Board held a public hearing and moved the zoning amendments to a warrant article to be voted on at 2017 town meeting.
